André Masquin

Around 1925 in Provence, a doctor called André Masquin made brushes as a leisure pastime. His small firm was based close to Mont Ventoux, near the vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

His son Paul, a young chemical and biological engineer who specialised in studying bacteria, returned to France in 1930 after a long stay in the Far East.

"My son, I'm not a manufacturer to the core, and this business demands more than my passions for the fine machinery in my workshop. What do you think?"

In 1938 Paul Masquin, who got caught up into brushes and brooms sector, ordered his first semi-automatic machine. It increased an employee's output from three to 96 units an hour, and could also drill wood.

A new step was reached in 1946: the workshop acquired automatic carousel machines. These made 200 brushes an hour and also drilled wood, inserted tufts, and trimmed and packed the finished products.

Since that time, new machinery with digital controls and automation has brought many other improvements: precision, safety, efficiency, less bulky products, and reduced operator tiredness.

Over the years, Paul Masquin has built strong positions on the broom and brush markets in France and internationally.

Since 1968 Regis Masquin, the company's third generation and current chairman, has strengthened the executive team and developed a real corporate strategy, notably by creating a Commercial and Logistics department.

The shipping system has been structured and optimally organised to serve markets smoothly.

1972: output was one million units.

Through his love for the business and his product know-how, Régis Masquin increased quality by introducing quality checksheets. He implemented a semi-automatic production policy, and in 1980 moulds with Paul Masquin branding were installed - in design terms, red and blue reigned !
